Bicycle Safety Riding Rules

Bicycle Safety Riding Rules *"DO'S"*

1. Do ride with the flow of traffic
2. Do ride single file when riding with other bicycles
3. Do ride solo - one person on a bicycle
4. Do ride in a straight line
5. Do obey all traffic laws, signals, and signs
6. Do wear light colored clothing when riding at night
7. Do keep both hands on the handlebars
8. Do be alert for pedestrians who have the right-of-way
9. Do walk your bicycle across busy streets and intersections
10. Do be alert and maintain sharp lookout
11. Do, when possible, ride on streets with light traffic
12. Do, when possible, register your bicycle with the police

*"DON'TS"*

1. Don't ride a bicycle not in good mechanical condition
2. Don't ride on high speed highways
3. Don't ride in rain, fog, or snow
4. Don't make repairs in the street
5. Don't ride on the sidewalk with exception of bicycle paths
6. Don't play games on your bicycle
7. Don't carry bundles which limit your vision
8. Don't make unexpected movements while riding in traffic
9. Don't leave the scene of an accident
10. Don't park in space reserved for automobiles or trucks
11. Don't ride in the street until you have learned the "rules of the road"
12. Don't hitch a ride on any vehicle
